Hydration is such an essential factor in skin health and age prevention. In Korean beauty, hydration is the number one focus (maybe tied with sun protection). The innovative culture is constantly coming up with new ways to solve all skin concerns. This is where the 7 Skin Method was birth. This hydration technique refers to the application of seven layers of hydrating product to plump up and moisturize dry skin.
While this method is extremely beneficial in increasing moisture in the skin it may come off as a tedious task, especially if you’re not in the mood for a drawn out skincare routine. Of course, K-Beauty culture realized this and came up with a solution for the solution.
Enter the “Toner Mask” (or “skin pack” in Korea). This is sort of like a DIY sheet mask. It’s a quicker way to increase hydration and even out skin tone while instantly hydrating and brightening the skin.
How to Toner Mask
You’ll need either a toner or an essence, pick one gentle enough not to cause any irritation to your skin. Like in the 7-skin method, you’ll want to avoid using acid toners or products containing synthetic fragrances and alcohol.
Next, you’ll need cotton pads, but not just any cotton pads. You’ll need either multi-layer cotton pads or sponge ones. These absorb the product enough to hold it in place but not so much so that they keep it from transferring to the skin.
Once your skin is prepped it is time to apply the technique.
Thoroughly soak your cotton pad with the toner or essence you have decided to use. once you soak the cotton pad, place in on the parts of your face you are looking to hydrate. This could be the on cheeks, forehead or both. Once the cotton pad is sticking to your face your work is done and it’s up to the essence or toner to do the work.
How long you leave the cotton pad on depends on the product you are using, generally 3-5 minutes. Spiratically check the cotton pad to make sure it doesn’t dry up on your face as this will actually dry out skin. If the cotton pad starts to dry out or feels warm to touch its time to take it off. After removing the cotton pad tap the leftover product into the skin for better absorption.
How Often Should You Toner Mask?
Since you should be using a gentle product, you can use this technique as often as you’d like. If you have normal skin once or twice a week is enough to keep up with hydration. Those with dry skin can utilize it more often. Since the use of lightweight products doesn’t leave behind a sticky or thick residue it is a perfect method to use under your daily makeup or to provide a dewy glow before a special event.
