Apple cider vinegar seems to have made its way into the spotlight recently, but the extensive list of benefits it holds is anything but newly discovered.
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is made from apple cider that has been fermented to form health-promoting probiotics and enzymes. ACV can be used as an herbal remedy for many issues as well as different health concerns. Here are some of my favorite reasons to keep ACV in my pantry.
Improves Skin Health
Apple cider vinegar has been proven to treat acne and help to reduce scarring. The antibacterial properties of vinegar can work to fight against many strains of harmful acne causing bacteria. I like to use ACV in my skincare routine when I’m breaking out or feel a breakout coming along. I will usually mix up a face mask made of 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay with about ½ tablespoon of ACV (or until it’s a thick creamy consistency).
Bentonite clay works to draw out toxins and unclog blocked pores. This results in the reduction of both blemishes and the appearance of large pores, while also regenerating skin tissue resulting in the softer smoother skin underneath.
SIDE NOTE: When using bentonite clay, you should avoid metal utensils or bowls. Bentonite clay acts as a magnet for all positively charged toxins meaning the positive charges from the metal can be pulled toward the clay, therefore, exposing it to your skin, which in turn can absorb into your bloodstream.
Boosts Gut Health
ACV contains healthy bacteria that when consumed can enhance the health of your digestive system. Consuming ACV daily can increase immunity and improves digestion and nutrient absorption. I suffer from many GI conditions, so keeping my gut healthy is extremely important to me (as it should be to everyone, health conditions or not). I take 1 tbsp of ACV diluted in 1 cup of water every night before bed to keep my gut feeling 100.
Despite its acidic taste, ACV has an alkalizing effect on the body. Alkaline refers to having a pH greater than 7. Balanced pH levels help to improve health and keep your body running at its best. This is very important as the pH of your body can determine whether or not your body is in a position to host sickness and disease or fight against it.
Relieves Cold Symptoms
If not for any other reason, this right here is what keeps me consuming ACV. The bacteria in ACV can help to give your immune system a boost and allows it to put up its best defense against the ick.
