The Power of Turmeric Curcumin

Turmeric curcumin could be the most nutritional supplement in existence. I swear by this stuff! It has so many health benefits, especially when it comes to inflammation and gut health. Turmeric has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. It contains compounds with medical properties called curcuminoids. The most important of these is curcumin.

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. This compound is a strong antioxidant and has powerful anti-inflammatory effects.

There are many many other health benefits turmeric can provide.

Improves skin conditions

Turmeric can be used to help keep your skin healthy and clear of acne. It inhibits the growth of acne-causing bacteria and reduces oil secretion by the sebaceous glands. It’s antioxidant properties fight signs of aging like wrinkles and pigmentation by limiting the growth of free radicals.

I apply a turmeric facial mask at least once a week to keep acne at bay. I mix it with manuka honey or bentonite clay depending on my skin concerns at the moment/

*Turmeric does stain the skin a goldish color, so be sure to save topical use for a time you’ll be staying in. You’ll also want to do a test patch on your forearm before applying it to your face, as it may cause an allergic reaction in some.

Fights BODY-WIDE Inflammation

Arguably, the most powerful characteristic of curcumin is its anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation puts people at risk for almost every disease and health concern in the world. Health conditions such as arthritis, cancer, high blood pressure, UTIs, diabetes, acid reflux, heart disease, ulcerative colitis, chronic pain, etc. are all symptoms of inflammation. Even skin conditions such as wrinkles, psoriasis, and acne are caused by inflammation.

I suffer from IBS and microscopic colitis, which is basically chronic inflammation in the colon, or large intestine. This is a less severe inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) than ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease but still causes painful cramping and stomach issues. I take a turmeric supplement every day to help reduce inflammation and subside flare-ups.

Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory properties also allow it to help reduce symptoms of IBS and IBD, improve digestion and stomach health, speed up wound healing (think acne), support joint and muscle health and reduce pain.

Heavy metal detoxification

High levels of exposure to heavy metals such as lead, mercury, aluminum, and arsenic can cause acute or chronic toxicity. This can lead to damage to the mental and central nervous function as well as damage vital organs.

Turmeric is able to bind to a metal and remove it from the body. This allows it to help rid the body of harmful metals and toxins.

Helps protect from DNA Damage

DNA damage is when the original structure of the DNA is altered. This can be caused by exposure to toxins such as UV and tobacco smoke or due to reactive compounds formed in the body because of metabolism. Two of the major consequences of DNA damage are cancer and aging.

Turmeric and curcumin have a genoprotective property that allows them to protect cellular DNA from damage

Unfortunately, curcumin is very difficult for our bodies to absorb on their own. But by combining it with black pepper extract absorption can be enhanced by 2000%. Make sure to look for a turmeric curcumin extract like this, that contains black pepper extract to ensure maximum absorption.
