Rescue Dry Skin With The 7 Skin Method

I suffer from very dry skin and even more so in the winter. My family heats our house with wood which sucks all the moisture out of the air dehydrating everything in its path. When those winter months come along I am in desperate need of all the moisture I can get. K-beauty came to the rescue and delivered a hydrating method to keep my skin soft and plump all winter long.

The 7-Skin Method is a multi-application toner technique with the goal of maximizing skin hydration. Basically, it’s the act of applying multiple layers – seven to be exact – of a toner or lightweight essence to your face after you cleanse. In Korean, a toner is commonly referred to as “skin” hence why the method is called the 7-Skin. The main idea behind the 7 layers is to increase the skin’s moisture without the heaviness that may come from tradition creams and oils.

How It’s Done

Start with a clean face that has been properly double cleansed. Next, pour your toner onto a cotton pad and gently apply it all over your skin to remove any excess dirt and debris. Here is where you apply the technique. You may continue to use the same toner or you can use a watery essence for the next 7 layers.

Thayers Witch Hazel

Pour the product into the palm of your hand and press it into the skin on your face and neck. You’ll repeat this process 6 more times, just letting the previously applied product dry slightly before adding the next layer of toner or essence. After applying 7 layers the process is complete and you can continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

What toner or essence should you use?

You can use virtually any toner or essence (or both) when applying this method but some tonners may cause irritation when applied in multiple layers. Try to avoid acid toners completely as acid toners provide mild exfoliation and may end up drying out the skin even more which is the opposite of our goal here. You may also want to stay away from using products with synthetic fragrances and alcohol to reduce the risk of irritation. I like to use products that are natural and non-toxic to ensure I am keeping my skin safe.

You can mix different toners and essences if you desire. I like to add in facial mists between each layer just for fun! If you’re really feeling wild you can use a different toner or essence for each layer, just be sure to follow the rule of applying the lightest product first and the heaviest last.

Seven layers of product can sound tedious and time-consuming but it’s a very quick process. You don’t have to be doing this daily but a few times a week or just when your skin needs some extra hydration will do.

Good luck and happy hydration!
